“You must keep your feet grounded so firmly on the earth that it’s like you have four legs, instead of two. That way, you can stay in the world. But you must stop looking at the world through your head. Your must look through your heart instead.”—Eat, Pray, Love. (via thejoyofdreams)
I’m a fan of beverages. Ask my madre, who spent my formative years yelling at me to remove my collection of beverage glasses from the desk/end table/coffee table/dinner table. And I’ll drink just about anything, though my favorites are diet coke, coffee, Crystal Light and iced tea.
So a friend of mine recently told me that you’re supposed to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water each day (so if you weigh 100 lbs (ha!) you should drink 50 oz. of water). She heard that from her nutritionist, so it’s legit. Once I had the knowledge, it felt dishonest not to use it. So I’ve been trying really hard to get in all my ounces (I’m not telling you how many, but it’s a lot) and it’s been kind of tough.
But it’s getting easier. I don’t feel like I’m drowning in my Nalgene anymore, nor am I running off to the ladies room all the time. It’s apparently true that your body does get used to the hydration. No, I didn’t give up the coffee or the Diet Coke, and I’m supplementing some of the “plain” water with Crystal Light. But I’vewaycut back on that stuff so it’s more of a treat now. I’m hoping that this will leave me healthier, more energized and with better skin and hair, too!
